How to Get Sandal-Ready Feet in 5 Easy Steps

We can finally say that sandal season is here, woo! After a long winter of being hidden under woolly socks, wellies and boots your poor feet might be in need of a little TLC. There’s something so luxurious about treating yourself to a salon manicure or pedicure, but with most of us tightening our purse-strings to save some pennies then why not try a DIY pedi which can look just as professional – and it’s free!

With weddings, social events and summer days just around the corner, now’s the time to get your feet in tip-top shape for those gorgeous sandals and strappy heels you’ve got on standby.

Check out our top 5 at-home pedicure tips below.

1. Prep
Pedicure tools and preparation

Start your pedicure by setting out everything you’ll need. We use the following:

Basin (big enough for your feet)

Aromatherapy bath oil

A couple of clean hand towels

Exfoliating brush/exfoliating scrub

Nail clippers

Nail file

Cuticle stick

Moisturiser

Nail polish

Top coat

Don’t forget to remove any old nail polish you have on your toes using nail polish remover and a cotton/reusable pad.

2. Soak Your Feet
Foot soak in warm water

Fill a basin or your bathtub with warm water. Add a few drops of your favourite scented bath oil or a small drop of your favourite bubble bath. Give your feet a good soak (around 10 minutes or so) to allow the nails and cuticles to soften.

3. Exfoliate
Exfoliate dry skin on feet

Apply a small amount of exfoliating scrub to each foot while the skin is damp and buff dry skin away. Pay extra attention to the heels and soles of your feet. Rinse off the scrub and pat your feet dry with a clean towel (heated on the radiator for extra salon-experience points).

4. Trim & Moisturise
 Moisturiser for skin

Use nail clippers to trim your nails until they are all roughly the same length. Use a nail file or nail block to smooth and shape the edges. Use your cuticle stick to push back the cuticles on your toenails. Finally give your feet a good moisturise with your favourite body or foot cream.

5. Finishing Touch

Pick some nail polish (we love powder blue, hot pink or mint green shades for sunny days), and apply two even coats. Allow the first coat to dry fully before adding the second. Once the second coat is dry apply a layer of clear top-coat to help prevent chipping and allow this to dry fully too. This is the ideal time to catch up on Insta stories, read a few pages of your book or start an episode of your favourite show while you wait for your nails to dry in-between coats.

You did it – you’re all set to strut your stuff in your fave open-toe shoes. Enjoy! We recommend following the above steps every couple of weeks to keep your feet in great condition.
